12 Towers Paddle Festival 2020
12 Towers is an annual event held across the Southern Gold Coast, which sees Australia’s best stand-up paddle-boarders race past 12 lifeguard towers from Snapper Rocks to Burleigh Heads.
Over this weekend spectacle, join crowds on Coolangatta Beach, Kirra Beach, Currumbin Beach, Palm Beach and Burleigh Beach to watch the action firsthand, where each SUP competitor will give it their all to beat the clock with the aim to win trophies and prizes awarded to all first, second and third-place finishers in multiple age categories and classes.
Main events include the long course, short and technical surf battle, to take place over two days starting March 6.
Junior Beach Volleyball Championships
Over four days on Coolangatta Beach, Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships will arrive to showcase young volleyball talent in U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18 divisions, delivering non-stop volleyball on the beach with the chance to watch promising volleyball stars from all over Australia.
If you’re a volleyball fan and want to cheer on this year’s newest state teams, head to Coolangatta Beach for the 2020 Australian Junior Beach Volleyball Championships from March 15 to March 18.
Gold Coast Corona Open
The biggest surf event this autumn on the Gold Coast, World Surf League Corona Open is back in 2020 to kickstart a new WSL Championship Tour, with world-famous Snapper Rocks set to host some of the globe’s biggest names in surfboarding over an11-day qualifying competition.
Be at the Snapper Rocks Superbank for this thrilling surfing showcase, comprising male and female categories with plenty of action to soak up each day on the beach. As the season starter that sets the tone for one of WSL’s most-watched world tours, make sure to catch the WSL Corona Open on the Gold Coast from March 26 to April 5.
The Drop Music Festival Coolangatta
Calling all music lovers and festival-goers! The Drop Festival returns to Coolangatta at the end of March with an epic new lineup featuring the hottest music artists in Australia – an unmissable music festival if you’re craving live music and good vibes on the beach this autumn.
Round up a posse and make your way to Queen Elizabeth Park Coolangatta Beach for this atmospheric all-dayer, boasting an explosive single-stage lineup that includes Ball Park Music, DZ Deathrays, Kita Alexander, Graace, Boy and Bear, The Presents and more. The Drop hits Coolangatta – a straight 10-minute drive from our Palm Beach apartments – on March 28.
Australian Surf Life Saving Championships 2020
Another exciting event to watch on the beach, Australian Surf Life Saving Championships 2020 will take over Burleigh Beach and Kurrawa Beach for over a week of surf lifesaving action, involving Youth Championships and the Masters and Open Championships with elite surf lifesavers arriving from all over the country.
Catch nearly 500 events during this huge Gold Coast championship, both offshore and onshore with more than 300 of Australia’s top surf clubs getting involved. The Aussies 2020 takes place April 18 to April 26.
Burleigh Heads Aussie Ocean Swim
If you want to do more than spectate this autumn, Aussie Ocean Swim is your chance to take part in a fun ocean swim on Burleigh Beach. Open to all capabilities, this open water swim in the Old Coast’s sparkling ocean waters can be completed for fun or competition, where there will be points and medals awarded to competing surf clubs.
Bring friends and don’t forget your swimming cap – the two-kilometre Burleigh Aussie Ocean Swim will be held on the morning of April 19.
Cooly Classic 2020
Can’t make it to the Aussie Ocean Swim in April? Don’t fret – the Cooly Classic takes place just one week after, inviting all keen ocean swimmers to challenge themselves across a variety of distances that include the iconic 2k Cooly Classic, Cooly 3km, Cooly 1km and the 1000m Junior Giants.
Cooly Classic Ocean Swim will also feature the 5km marathon, introduced last year, for 200 seasoned swimming athletes ready to push it to the limit. There will be stretch yoga on the beach and prizes awarded to all 1st, 2nd and 3rd-placers – take part or soak up the incredible atmosphere on April 26.
Swim the Gold Coast
Last but not least this autumn, catch more offshore swimming action with Swim the Gold Coast – a must-see ocean race measuring 21.5km, taking the finest swimmers in the country on a demanding course from Coolangatta Beach all the way to Surfers Paradise.
