The BLEACH* Festival is coming back from August 11 to 21. The COVID-19 developments caused the event to end in 2021. Don’t pass up the opportunity to support the annual contemporary art exhibition on the Gold Coast.
The festival began as a tiny side event staged in conjunction with the Southern Gold Coast’s World Championship Tour Quiksilver Pro surfing competition. With a $40,000 budget, Bleach* Surfing the Fringe debuted in 2012 as a pilot and attracted 30,000 spectators during its 16-day run.
Its early success indicated the significant demand for the performing arts in the Gold Coast area and prompted the City of Gold Coast to pledge continuous financing and support. From modest beginnings, the festival has grown into one of Australia’s most prominent and thrilling site-specific contemporary arts festivals, drawing close to a million visitors.
